More intuitive flow map painting?

Currently, you can paint a flowmap within the editor using color channels, I.E vertex paint red to direct texture uvs along the x axis, and blue for the y axis.
This is unuserfreindly and anoying if you have to do alot of flowmap painting, It would be far better if you could just drag the texture in the direction you wanted it go.
I’de like to hear any ideas one how/if this could be done - without making changes to the engine source.
