Modeling Tools: How to snap vertices to the actual grid, not in grid increments

I’m using the modeling tools with snap to grid enabled.

I have a vertex not aligned to the grid.

When I move it, it moves by the size of the grid, but never aligns to the grid itself.

How do I set the vertex to the exact grid location. Blender has this behavior too and it drives me crazy. In Maya, it behaves exactly how I’d want and I can properly clean up geometry. Ctrl+End doesn’t work for this either.

Oh it seems like I can at least type in more precise values here as a workaround. I’d still prefer moving my mouse actually align the vertices like I’d expect in pretty much any other tool with snap to grid.

Thanks for you workaround. Did you ever find a better way of doing this?

I also find this behaviour infuriating. When I use a grid snapping function I expect it to snap to the grid, not “relative to its previous position in units that are equal to the gridsize”!!

I couldn’t figure out how to do this in Blender either. I’ve been using Maya this whole time and that has the behavior I expect. Then again I haven’t used Blender in like 10 years.

This can (usually) be achieved by clicking the gear icon in the Modeling Mode tools palette and selecting ‘Absolute Grid Snapping’

That will force everything to stay on your actual grid (rather than just snapping in grid increments)

However, I’ve also seen it fail to do this with vertex snapping as well.
