In that case the pictures are combined with LIDAR datas to have the depth. So this is right.
I see - thanks
Any update on the use of 360° images ?
would be rad !
Really looking forward to this feature. Any news?
Any news @capuringreality? Looking forward to these feature as well. Thanks.
Hello everyone,
thanks a lot for your interest in this feature. We are aware that it is demanded and we are working on it. However, the time of implementation is not known yet. Once the feature is released, we will inform you in the release notes for sure. Thank you for your understanding.
In the meantime, I’ve had some great success breaking apart the equi-rectangular image into 6 flat images (think six sides of a cube).
I’ve used a tool that comes with 3DF Zephr Lite (trial version). It’s in the Utilities > Images > Decompose equirectangular panoramas menu.
Hope this helps some of you until Reality Capture has some tools of it’s own to handle these images.
@aonsen: I’m trying to use your method but I’m not getting good results, can you explain in a bit more detail? It seems the decomposed images from 3DF Zephr Lite have no overlap, which keeps CR from aligning the images.
Hi! Can you share a sample of this “6 flat images” ?
If I understand well each image is a face of the cube. So, how RC manage with no overlap?
I try many projection with no success at all in RC.
What kind of Distorsion model did you use ?
Thank you very much!
Is this still in development after 5 years…?
For @Johannes Meissner and @Reality, there will not be any overlap when you decompose a 360deg panoramic image.
Just like with regular rectilinear images, the overlap happens between images taken at different locations.
That means you need to take a bunch of 360 panoramas, break each down into a cube map (6 images) and feed all that into RC.
Hopefully there is enough overlap between images taken from different locations to create alignment.
I don’t know why RC still isn’t providing 360deg image processing.
They already break down lidar data into a cubemap (6 images per scan location). The same could be done for 360 images.
Hugely disappointing that it’s still not a feature.
I’ve found this website that allows for batching of equirectangular images to cubemaps, however, it doesn’t seem to convert/work for me to actually try this on RC.
Any progression on this at all RC? If not, I think a lot of us would like to know, instead of waiting another 5 years.
There is no other info as there was before.
You can add me to the list of those who would like to see this feature. In my case it would be 360 images sourced from a Matterport camera. I realize I can get an OBJ from Matterport, but I’m hoping I can improve on it through reality capture somehow. Will try the zephyr approach, and also exporting 2D stills from the various scan positions. I’ll try remember to report back on how it goes.
