Mocap to Metahuman retarget problem

Hi there!

I captured lots of mocaps with Rokoko smartsuit + smartgloves for a cinematic project. Everything works fine except the hands are overlapping with the body, I think there’s something wrong with the shoulder with, the arms are too close to the torso - but I hope someone can point me into the right direction. I was reading lots of related issues related with A/T pose retargeting, but no luck yet finding the right offset/setting.

Thanks a lot!

Hi there,
Just checking in — were you able to sort this out?

If not, there are a few reliable paths you can take depending on how your character’s proportions differ from the source animation:

  1. Adjust the shoulders directly in Rokoko Studio
Clean up the shoulder offsets inside Studio, then re‑export the animations to Unreal. This is often the quickest fix if the issue originates in the capture.

  2. Correct the retargeting pose in Unreal
Before running the retargeter, make sure the target mesh’s shoulders are properly aligned with an offset to counter the final pose of the source mesh. Even small shoulder rotations can cause noticeable poke throughs once the animation is applied. This is mostly affected depending on the character’s body width.

  3. Bake to Control Rig and refine the pose
If you need more granular control, bake the animation to a Control Rig in Sequencer. From there, create an additive layer and tweak the shoulder pose without destroying the original motion.

Each option works - it just depends on whether you prefer to fix things at the source, during retargeting, or in post.
