I know there’s a lot of questions on root motion but I think it’s really hard to find good information on it, and the official documentation is pretty much useless. So I’m sorry if someone asked nearly the same question before but I’ve been looking for quite a while and still can’t find anything!
I downloaded both a character and two animations from Mixamo. The “Throw In” and the “Sword And Shield Attack”.
Both these animations required me to enable Root Motion so the character doesn’t go out of his capsule.
I have two problem, both may be the same :
The first animation is clearly “floating” on the floor making it very unrealistic :

The second problem is the “Sword And Shield Attack” animation is suppose to make the character rotate on himself and it’s not doing it. Which obviously looks ridiculous when the animation is played.
I have:
- “Root Motion On Everything”
- “Use Controller Rotation Yaw” = off
- “Orient Rotation to Movement” = off ( I set orientation toward the mouse )
- “Use Controller Desired Rotation” = off
- “Allow Physics Rotation During Anim Root Motion” = on
It seems like the characters isn’t “Jumping” in the air, which may be why the first animation looks weird ? so I will specify that I don’t have “Contrain to Plane” activated. I also tried to set Gravity Scale to “0” and “Apply Gravity While Jumping” to false.
Does someone have an idea what I’m doing wrong ?
Thanks!
