Minimum specs for development with mac

Hey,
So the question is actually very simple.
I’ve been working with ue4 for a long time now and I do not always want to rent a Mac for packaging. I only work on Windows and I am very happy with it (I actually boycott Apple :p)! Since many people use IOS / macOS, there is no way around. But what are the important minimum requirements for a Mac so I can pack any kind of game without any problems? I thought of a used Mac mini? But as I said, I’m not familiar with Mac at all and I urgently need a recommendation.

A modern Mac mini will be fine. You will absolutely want one that has an SSD.

Okay, so I researched and I found something that is affordable for me.

It’s an iMac 21.5 inch, Late 2015
CPU: 2,8 GHz Intel Core i5
RAM: 8GB DDR3
1TB HDD
GPU: Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 1536MB

Would it work with it?

No, you’ll want something with an SSD, not an HDD.

Unreal is extremely disk I/O intensive during the packaging process.

If it’s a Fusion drive then it’s fine, and virtually all of the 1TB and up drives should be now, even from 2015.

I’m happily remote packaging on a Macbook Pro (13 inch Mid 2012), 2.5Ghz Core i5 with 4Gb 1600Mhz DDR3 ram. Samsung SSD 500Gb, Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB.

I wouldn’t want to work directly in UE4 on that machine, but as I am working on my PC and just remote compiling my UE4 Mobile apps, this is working well. I got it second hand, very cheap with a dead battery and smashed screen and replaced both with salvaged parts. My projects are all pretty small so the 500Gb drive has been more than ample for my needs so far. This era of Macbook is one of the last that included an ethernet socket and a good selection of of physical ports.
