Minimum and recommended camera

Hello to Capturing Reality forum.

I want to know what is the general camera spec Capturing Reality Team and existing users would recommend, and I want to add my own requirement and goal to support the information I supplied, I want to scan my clay sculpture, they are generally as big as a grown person’s full hand length, they have some simple details, but nothing too crazy, it is not important at all to capture the detail, the point is to capture its volume and form, its general form and big shape, then using Capturing Reality’s product to transform the physical geometry data into digital.

I do not have the intention to do serious photography, so I don’t need to purchase the most powerful system I could get, but I do want to use a decent device to supply images with good quality information, with it Capturing Reality’s product could make a precise model out of it. I want to know how much budget I should invest to meet the goal I’ve setup, and which model you guys would recommend me to get. I’ve test it with iPhone camera before, and the results are terrible, so I know I need a better setup in order to get a better and cleaner input photo set.

Thank you guys, hope my words make senses to you. Let me know what do you think.

Hi ShiXin Zhao
Choose anything that you can buy
Anything above 12 Mpix can give you good results, so there is no need, as you say, for high-resolution cameras. Even a compact camera can give you what you need… But if you plan to invest, get a decent DSLR and use it also outside of scanning.
