MILES AND FLOWERS | Award-Winning Animated Short

I started this two years ago because I wanted to tell a small story that mixes drama with a bit of funny so it stays easy to watch. I made it in Unreal from the first blockout to the final cut. Working this way felt like having a set that never closes. I could try a shot, sleep on it, move the camera in the morning, and feel the change in the edit right away.

This was my first time directing an animated short, so I learned by doing. I ran the voice sessions, performed the body myself, and even “drove” the car with a gamepad like an actor would. Plenty of bad takes. Watching myself and trying again was the hard part.

When the spine finally held, five super talented artists jumped in to help polish the look. A sound team took a day with an old car and brought back every noise we needed. Two years later, it finally feels like the film that lived in my head.

Hey there @voldan25,

Hope you’re well and having a great week so far

Absolutely obsessed with the art style here. It’s super charming and distinctive. Also, I really love the use of pattern and color throughout the environment. So genuinely well made and polished.

Can’t believe this was done in under two years. So impressive. Hope we get to see more of your art around here

Oh boy this is crazy good. I was hooked from start to finish and left wanting more. Everything was top notch. I love the car especially.

Hello @voldan25 ! Welcome back to posting with us here on the forums!

This animated short has so many good features. The style, the audio, the story intrigue, and much more. Two years is a long and painful time to try and get a project moving, but that time was certainly well spent. I have so many questions, and I want to know more about our characters, the story, and the circumstances they find themselves in!

This was an amazing watch, and I can’t wait to see what you make next!

That is some amazing work playah! I hope one day I get as good as you. I do keep running into the very same re occuring theme, that we devs need a team if we want a project to finish before our lifespan lol.

Looking forward to checking out more of your videos should you ever decide to make more.
