mik8design - Retro 8-Bit Pixel Shaders

Retro 8-Bit — turn any scene into pixel art. A post-process material for Unreal Engine and UEFN.

One material in a Post Process Volume: big pixels, limited palettes, ordered dither, sprite outlines and an old screen with curved glass and scanlines.

Guide

WHAT IT DOES

  • 9 ready looks: Fantasy 16, Pocket Green, PC 16, 256 Colors, Arcade CRT, Amber Monitor, Sunset Sprites, Neon Night, Ice Sprites.

  • Palettes in a texture. 10 palettes from 2 to 16 colours plus 6 free rows — paint your own palette into a 16 × 16 image. Or reduce colours per channel (8-8-4 = 256 colours).

  • Ordered dither: Bayer 2×2 / 4×4 / 8×8 with adjustable strength, or flat colour areas.

  • Pixel-art outlines: one big pixel wide, on the front side of silhouettes, in a colour of your palette.

  • Old screens: scanlines, RGB mask, LCD grid, curved glass, vignette, moving noise.

  • Calm in motion: each big pixel takes the average colour of its area, so grass and foliage don't crawl.

  • Only some objects pixelated. Custom Stencil mask: everywhere, only on marked objects, or everywhere except them.

MATERIALS ONLY

No Blueprints, no C++, no plugins. One master material built from short Material Functions — no Custom node, so the same pack works in UEFN.

PLEASE NOTE

The scenes, environments, characters and props shown in the images and videos are used only to demonstrate the effect and are not included in this product. The product contains the post-process materials only (master material, presets, Material Functions and their texture) and an overview map built from simple engine shapes.
