Method to create on grid structural buildings?

Earlier I was able to create some on grid walls & walls with working doors. What I was doing for sure felt a little “hacky” but is there supposed to be a way that we can actually do this?

  1. Can we currently create custom walls/floors/roofs/etc? (on grid and structural)
  2. Will we ever be able to replace what the player’s builds look like?

This is the error I’m getting when trying to place down my old working custom wall.

This would actually be huge if it was possible to replace what player builds look like. My bedwars map that I am working on is relying on using the default build pieces but they look out of place where as custom ones would look amazing!

@Fresnella Tagging you here, this sounds like something you can comment on? Yes/No?

@spankysully1 are you talking about swapping in your own custom props for the default FN models for the walls that the player builds with? Like, the wood / metal / stone structures that the player builds using their pickaxe? I always wondered if that was possible, because there are options in the Building Prop blueprint that seem to allow it. Would be super cool. But I only briefly tried it and I couldn’t get it to work. But you were able to do it, at least partially??? How??

I think what Ian is referring to is that I 3D modeled some modular walls/floors/roof Building Props that are proportioned for the FN grid. But mine aren’t enabled for player builds in-game. It’s just for my own workflow. 512 x 512 floors, 512 x 384 walls etc. It’s an efficient way to build, I recommend it.

What I had was similar to what you’ve shown in that video I think. But a player could go in and build from their inventory a wooden floor or anything and it would attach to my custom wall. (This no longer works)

Also would love to replace the actual mesh the players place while building.

Ohh ok so you’re talking about two separate things:

  1. Custom mesh walls(etc) that the players can attach their player-built structures to, in game.
  2. Custom walls that replace the mesh the players place, in game.
    Right?

Ya both of those sound great! I hope we get some answers, cause I have no idea  I’m not using player building in my game so I didn’t even think about the possibility of players attaching their structures to my custom meshes.

I am too looking for a way to enable building on custom pieces. It appears that there are option categories such as “Player Built”, “Attachment”, “Structural Support” and “Building” in the Blueprint however I didn’t manage to make it work.
