MetaHuman to Blender to Unreal Engine?

(I understand this question may have been asked a lot of times, but a simple Google search didn’t reveal this for me)

Hi everybody, so, let’s say I am planning to use a MetaHuman model in Unreal Engine, but as I heard, MetaHuman models are too high-poly, and also, let’s say, I want to edit them a bit in Blender. Like, (I’m not sure if it’s possible to do it in MetaHuman, but either way, can I do it in Blender?) say, a model will not have a leg, for example, which I am planning to edit in Blender. Can I do it, or once I create the model in MH, I have to export it directly into Unreal Engine and use it as is? But what if I want to make the model more like low-poly? Like, say, under 750 polys? I mean… this is just for example, and of course, it’s more preferable to have at least 7,500 polys, but… just for example. Basically, the question is, can I edit the MetaHuman model outside of Unreal Engine, with the only intent to use it in Unreal Engine? Like, you can export it into Maya, so why not in Blender? (And also, what can you do in Maya with the model? Can you do any edits, such as remeshing the model , say, to have a lot less polygons, or, say, adding fangs to turn into a vampire, or… what?)

Ideally, I’d say, I expect a good, descriptive answer, but a short answer (preferably with links) will do as well. Thanks to those who answer.

It doesn’t really answer the question originally asked, can I export the Metahuman model into Blender, edit it, and reimport it back into Unreal Engine and use it there? All you are saying is that I can create a 3d model of a human in another software OR in Metahuman.

  1. No offense, I’m not trying to be rude or anything like that, but I’m not your bro
  2. I asked a simple question, which can easily be answered with simple words “Yes” or “No”. Links are preferable, but not necessary. It’s the links or a more definitive answer that would help me better understand if it’s OK to do it or not. Can I import it into Blender? I’m not asking for “How to import it into Blender” just yet, I’m asking from legal perspective. Will there be any potential LEGAL issues if I export it into Blender, edit it, no matter how heavily, and reimport back into the engine?

You can export into Blender but beware that the default scene orientations in Blender are different than Unreal so be prepared to have to fix the skeleton if you want to do any animations and rigs. You can remove or add any body parts to the model as long as the geometry is bound to the Metahuman standard skeleton hierarchy or the mannequin if you’d rather use the manny skeleton since it’s more perfomant(less bones). You’ll also want to make sure the vertex groups match but that should not be a problem since Blender has an automatic process for that. Totally up to you what you do. I would say invest in the Auto Rig pro addon if you want to streamline the process more.
