Hello there! I’m trying to work with and edit metahumans and finding it to be a fairly frustrating process so far, partially due to some mystification.

When I swap textures on the material assigned to one of the skeletal meshes, the head in this case, this is reflected on the skeletal mesh if placed in a scene, but not the blueprinted character even though the same material is in use. For some reason, for me, I’m not able to see any updates on that - even trying to force a change by removing and re-assigning the material, and putting it in every LOD slot. The blueprint just brings together the components, so this should not be the case. Can anyone advise as to what may be going on here so I can edit in true context, as well as be sure the changes I’m making are actually going to be visible? This seems to make no sense to me, so I’m not sure what the blocker is.

I also have a question about the reasoning for LOD textures. Wouldn’t mip mapping be taking care of this? I’m curious about the reasoning behind having duplicate textures in the metahuman setup.

When trying to export roughness maps for editing, I only ever get a black file.

I’ve also found that a majority of paramaters on material instances don’t appear to have any effect. I know these things are modified by metahuman creator, and then it seems it would cook out a final texture but I’m just having a hard time understanding the setup and therefore working within it/utilizing it once in engine for desired changes that have to happen outside of creator.

Editing the size or shape of eyes for Metahumans is proving quite difficult. Mesh to Metahuman will modify the skin of the face, but not the eyelashes, eye shadow, lacrimal fluid, etc, causing these to mismatch. With the need to increase eye size generally by a small amount, we seem to have good options while retaining the inherent work embodied.
Further, as a piece of feedback for the Metahuman workflow, I wish that Metahuman components could be updated without having to delete and re-download the character each time. A change to just the mesh for example would require this, but it would be great to simply “update” the affected things.
I greatly appreciate help on any or all of these!
