MetaHuman Identity - GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed. Check log for GPU state information.

Issue: I am trying to learn MetaHuman but my UE application crashes immediately upon opening MetaHuman Identity. MetaHuman Identity crashes upon opening with DX12. MetaHuman Identity runs with DX11 but the auto features are unavailable. I really want to learn with DX12 auto tracking.

Crash message:

GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed.

Check log for GPU state information.

Specs:

  • GPU AMD Radeon Pro W6600
  • CPU AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-core processor.
  • VRAM 8176 MB

Steps taken:

  • Set Fixed frame rate 60
  • Added TdrDdiDelay and TdrDelay to GraphicsDrivers with Decimals 60
  • Enable Ray Tracing While Editing is unchecked
  • Increased GPU Virtual Memory to Recommended amount (min 3328, max 4982)
  • AMD Unreal Application Settings (See image).

Performance:

  • Task Manager shows Utilization ~40%
  • AMD Software Adrenaline addition shows Utilization 30-60%
  • Setting Fixed Frame rate to 30 greatly reduces utilization but the same crash error occurs.

Notes:

  • I do not have MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner
  • I’ve tried other steps recommended in UE forums but mine seems to be unique to opening MetaHuman Identity.
