metahuman groom is not responding to lighting

i have an issue in my project lighting grooms, i have made a metahuman lighting project to compare settings and plugins but cant seem to figure out what is causing it. in my project metahuman grooms are showing as black. the level has been migrated from the metahuman lighting project in to my own for a direct apples to apples comparison

I have tried replacing all the render settings from DefaultEngine.ini and it still looks the same.

I was able to replicate the black hair look in meta lighting project by forcing the hair parent material to use sm6 instead of dx12 which makes me think its possibly a shader issue.

my project is based on the city sample so DefaultEngine.ini for that is a bit of a nightmare to debug.

if anyone has any suggestions I’m open to trying anything at this point.

for anyone that has this issue disable megalights. 5 hours of pain for a single checkbox
