Metahuman from scan mesh - How to match the scale of the original scan

Hi,

I am creating a metahuman from a photogrammetry scan. I want the scale of the metahuman to closely match the original scan. I’ve tried a number of methods including Conform method with Metahuman Identity (where I fit from mesh) and Conform method with Template mesh (where I have used faceform to wrap the metahuman topology to my scan). Despite this, the scale is always off by ~5% or so (I’m looking for a faithful representation so face measurements would be the same).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how this could be achieved?

Cheers,
M

Hi @michael.hogg, welcome back to the forums! I’ve been taking a look at your post and trying to figure out how to approach this. I’m sure we can figure this out, or at least get you closer to what you would like to achieve  . If possible, could you provide the following additional information? This will allow me to create a vespoke answer based on the context you provide.

  1. What version of the engine are you using? There have been features added to metahumans from version to version, so for me to guide you, I would need to know which one you are working with.
  2. Have you calibrated your scanner/scan to make sure it’s giving you the 100% correct scale? Oftentimes, photo scans don’t automatically know how big things are, even though they have advanced a lot in the past few years. It is always a good practice to make sure your scan’s facial measurement matches the real-life measurements of your model.
    1. If there is hair covering parts of your face in the scan, this might prove difficult for you down the road, a “bald-ish” scan works best, I recommend using a wig/hair net if possible.
  3. If you have any additional information that you would like to post please feel free to do so.

While you are getting that information together I’ll be trying to replicate your what you have done up until now and seeing if we can get this done without leaving the engine.
