Hi everyone,
I’m currently learning to use “MetaHuman for Maya”, and I’m running in-depth tests on the “Expression Editor”, especially everything related to “Joint Matching”, whether it’s through “MLJM (Machine Learning)” or “NLSJM (Non Linear Shape Joint Matching ?)”.
From what I understand based on the official documentation, NLSJM should be approached as a “technical optimization process”, not as an artistic tool.
But that brings me to a key question:
Is it normal that NLSJM does not produce any visible changes in Maya, even after running it ?
When I use MLJM, even though it’s described as experimental, it works quite well.
For example, if I modify an expression like “cheek_blow_left” using “Edit Selected Expression”, and then click on "Run ML Joint Matching and Update joints in scene”, I immediately see the volume and surface joints reposition themselves to fit the modified expression mesh.
However, when I run NLSJM (as described in the documentation, following the recommended order from Joint Matching 01 to Joint Matching 09), nothing seems to change visually in Maya.
The joints inside the edit_grp
remain in the same positions as those generated by MLJM.
So my questions are:
How does NLSJM actually work ?
And how can I use it properly in a real production workflow ?
Thanks for your response.
