If you take a look at the last FAQ on the original post it explains what will happen with the MetaHuman Plugin features. The MetaHuman plugin will still be available for download.
That one is on me, for not checking the FAQs for an afterthought while already typing. That clarifies it.
FAB does not support pre 5.6 MetaHumans. If you need preset MetaHumans from the previous versions you can download them from Bridge before the shut down.
I was experiencing some issues while trying to download some of the preset metahumans for 4.27, like Ada - even before the tool for 4.27 was discontinued on April 5th. It appears, as if the download for the Preset doesn’t even start in the standalone bridge application( it is stuck at 0%). Hence my question regarding putting them up for individual download through FAB. I don’t mind downloading and archiving the presets myself, but if the download doesn’t even start, I’m at my witt’s end.(I even tried downloading it through quixel without success) Unless I misunderstood the 90-day retrieval period( and if presets are considered associated with my account by the definition), that should mean, that I could still download presets by December 4th 2026.
The legacy clothing is only going to be available for 5.7+.
It looks like there is an issue with standalone bridge impacting MetaHuman preset downloads (for 4.27). I have replicated it and reached out to the relevant team to investigate and resolve.
Thank you!
I’d like to ask if there’s any plan to add “Button Down Shirt” and “Slacks” too, since they seem the only missing on FAB (and I’m interested in them).
I am using UE 5.4 and want to still use/author my Metahumans - very relevant to the project. So, the best workflow would be for me to migrate the entire project to 5.6, then download the Metahumans to 5.6 (you cannot export 5.6 Metahumans to 5.4?). I am worried that the migration of the 5.4 project to 5.6 will causes issues. Really helpful if someone replies. Thanks.
Yes - the best way to continue authoring your MetaHumans is migrate them, and your project, to UE5.6+.
Unless you have significant engine modifications, the project upgrade should be straightforward. You can always keep the original 5.4 project if you wanted to test out the 5.6+ upgrade.
Thanks so much for your quick reply. It’s a small project (POC) so I’m guessing I would need no more than a couple of days to see this through? Thanks.
The .mhb file alone isn’t fully safe for long-term storage. It mainly saves the MetaHuman data, but not all dependencies.
Best option: also back up your full project folder (or exported MetaHuman assets) and keep it on an external drive or cloud. That way your characters will still work when you come back later.
