Metahuman character not working with Animation in sequencer

Im very new to unreal engine so please forgive my newbie ignorance…Ive created a metahuman character and successfully tested them walking with the MF_Unarmed_Walk_Fwd. I created a sequencer to test the character walking upstairs. Ive followed some youtube videos that do this but my character just sits at the bottom of the stairs when i press play in the sequencer. I have muted the controlrigs for both body and face. i have previously tested the character walking in the viewport but it just walks through the stairs. Is there some step im missing? ive switched between use animation blueprint and use animation asset but can’t get the sequence to play the animation.
