Meta Human eyes bug(?)

Hello, i’m using mesh to metahuman and i’ve encountered a problem with the eyes. The original model was based on Tifa from FF VII, so the eyes are a bit bigger than normal. Is there a way to make bigger eyes? Thank you in advance

Just to calrify, i think it’s a bug because even though the eyes expand as they should, the meshes corresponding to the material id 5 and 7 (eye shell and eye edge) don’t

Yeah also when the eyes are bigger the eyelashes don’t align. I know it’s probably not meant for the stylised type of eyes but as the actual eyes in the mesh are bigger I’m hoping eventually this will be fixed. All in all works pretty awesome though. Good work

Hi Malker,

I recently saw a youtuber mentioning mesh to metahuman eye problems. (Although in his case it is the eyeball clipping through the eyelid)

In the video he reduces the “Region Influence” for the eyes in Metahuman Creator. Although this will probably do the opposite of what you’re asking and shrink Tifa’s big beautiful anime-eyes. :eye: :eye: Maybe once all of the parts of the eye line up the mesh could be warped in Blender/Maya?

Maybe that helps!

Hi Astrotronic, thanks for the answer.

Unfortunately it indeed shrink the eyes, but for the moment i found a walkaround assigning a masked material with 0 opacity to the material id 5 and 7. Altough this remove the glitch, some of reflection’s detail become lost, plus there are 2 material id doing nothing and the eyelashes are not alligned (except for the long curled one, don’t know why…). Here is the result, on the left with this workaround and on the right with reduced influence

I was looking for a way to fix it directly in the metahuman creator, but for the moment i think fixing it in blender or unreal is the easyest way

A temp fix for the MI_EyeOcclusion_Inst is to open it up, then scroll down to ShadowBorder and then at the bottom increase the TopShadowBorder_Radius, this will fix the issue with the line through the eyes. For the eyelashes I’d imagine you’d have to create your own outside of Unreal and import them, probably also worth increasing the eye ball size as well to match the sockets as the eye balls are a lot smaller then they should be when you create a MH with larger eyes. Also the larger eyes don’t close all the way, ok for still renders but not so good for animation.

All in all not too bad if you want to customise a Metahuman further, much easier than what I was having to do before.
