Meshing across multiple scans

Is there a way to mesh across a set of laser scans?

thanks!

Hi Peter
Can explain a bit more what we should understand under this ? what need to solve…

Yes I’ll try:

Each individual scan shows up in CR as a number of pieces, 6-8 pieces usually. Perhaps this is happening due to the .ptx export from Scene 5.5, I don’t know.

I get tie points within these individual scans (which is not required as they are from a single scan source and sit together as that single source perfectly)

I don’t get tie points between different scans, from different positions. I don’t see a way to combine the scans to correct for occluded areas etc.

& therefore cannot mesh multiple scans as one.

Hi Peter

yes individual scanns are like cubes that is OK

have you registered tehm in Faro Scene ? if yes set on IMPORT of PTX that the scanns are registered
and you get them as whole scene aligned (registered ) in RC
then just set proper BBox for recon and set proper resolution of the scann data
( RECONSTRUCTION= SETTINGS= LASER SCANER= minimal sampling distance its in Meters and default value is around 2mm if remember ) but choose wisely we are not interpolating so its use real scann data.

okay, makes sense & I have been setting the “registered” on import option.

Is there a rule of thumb to set that optimal value?

“RECONSTRUCTION= SETTINGS= LASER SCANER= minimal sampling distance its in Meters and default value is around 2mm”

Of course the scanner has different resolutions and the further the scan point is from the scanner the greater the distance between each point.

All the meshing I did so far worked just fine at the default setting but it would be interesting if there is a way to optimized this process either for a faster workflow or a better result.

Thanks!

it depend on project, and a general rule is making smaller BBox and try diff settings to see “real” resolution. generaly the 5mm is OK, and would not go under 1-2mm.
