Meshes get low poly after merging

I’m a complete beginner to Unreal and just beginning to experiment. I downloaded a head mesh from that one site, where you can download various models from different games (I don’t remember the name). Because the textures were all separate I used the obj, where the meshes were also separate. After creating Materials for each object, I wanted to merge them into one mesh, but after doing so, the poly count dropped it was all janky. I tried to export it to Blender to merge it there, but after exporting, it looked lower poly as well. (End goal is to create a Metahuman from that mesh)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey there @Plovus68! Welcome to the community! I would first recommend checking if you used the Simplify or Approximate merge when combining meshes. This would cause a reduction in your face count and resolution drastically in some cases.

If you import the meshes to combine into blender first, are they less detailed than in engine? Could we take a look at the meshes’ geometry and the issue at play?

Here’s also a detailed tutorial (if a little dated) on Mesh to Metahuman:
