Mesh intersection after animation re-targeting

Hi Everyone!

First post. But have been a longtime stalker. A great community here.
I have re-targeted a new skeletal mesh to an existing skeleton asset. The animations all work but he is intersecting severely. I know in the documentation it explains that you can have very different skeletal meshes and the re-targeting will work. My question is what would be the next steps to alleviate the intersecting.
