Hi, I’m wondering if it’s possible to merge photos from digital camera to point cloud gathered from a laser scanner, that doesn’t have camera (trimble fx). In this case I want to have a mesh with the geometry from the scanner and textured with the digital camera photos. Is it possible by using control points and how can you select a control point into the component from the laser scanner?
Hi dsosserov, if the point cloud from that scanner will be ordered, then it will be possible to import it into RealityCapture. RealityCapture will create from these files (E57 or PTX) something like cube parts from each laser scan position and these are saved as LSP, which are basically images. Then you will be able to place control points also over these LSPs and you can merge these two datasets. Also, if there is a good overlap between datasets, you won’t need use control points.
You can watch some tutorials on our YouTube channel about merging these kinds of datasets.
