Media Player won't play MP4. Any ideas?

Hi ,

I’ve been following a tutorial to get media into my project (UE 5.0.01) but I can’t get the mp4 file to play in media player. I double click and nothing happens, just a black screen. I tried scrubbing through the file but that won’t either. I don’t get an error just nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Its basically the same instructions as these in the unreal documentation.

Funny thing is the original MOV file works (downloaded asset from ActionVFX) but I need to be able to feather the edges so using Hitfilm and whatever I try with the render it won’t play. I even tried Cineform MOV file but nothing.

It could be that hitfilm is not creating the mp4 correctly - uncle google suggests many people have problems with them, not only in UE4…

I just tried doing the same with a Mp4 straight from my GH5, I can hear the sound but there is no picture. So i think there is some issue there somewhere
