I know that Unreal supports exporting ProRes and DNXHD via MXF, but is there a way to use those same kinds of files with Media Player? I am using 5.3 and when I try to use them with Media Player, I just get the error “The media file failed to open. Check log file for errors”.
I do have the ProRes+DNX Plugins enabled for export.
Did you ever get any clarification on this topic? I’m trying to use a DnxHD file in MediaPlayer in 5.4.3, and it still doesn’t appear to work. I was told to try using the Electra plugin with its DnxHD codec, and that doesn’t work either. Did you get anything to work?
No, and I also never received a response to this question on Unreal Developer Network, which leads me to believe it’s… not really an intended workflow?
I’ve come to the conclusion, after a lot of testing, that really Image Sequences are the only format intended for serious usage. Some documentation claims to support other formats, but I’ve noticed a consistency in Epic’s documentation recommending Image Sequences for a reason - they are very fast.
