Media player streaming is silent

Im trying to play a stream through my media player asset. It recognises the stream and it lets me play it (its online streaming from an asx stream containing asf audio) both formats are listed in the windows media supported formats list, yet the stream is silent. It plays fine in media player. Is it just because of the asx format?

Id really appreciate any help anyone can give. Ive read somewhere that changing the ref tag in the asx file would work but i cant get it to play when i change it.

[bump] can anybody help?? ive read the documentation over and over and there are minimal threads about the media player streaming capabilities on here and still there is no sound playing.
