Measurments in U.E.5.8.2

I need to measure a object in unreal engine 5.8.2, but my views does not working, so what can I do in order to solve it?

Measuring a mesh does not go through the viewport view-mode menu, so a broken “views” dropdown is a separate problem from getting a length.

To measure in 5.8.2:

  1. Switch to Modeling Mode (the mode dropdown at the top left of the viewport, or Shift+5). In the tool palette search for Measure. Click two points on the object. The distance shows in the tool panel.
  2. Unreal stores everything in centimeters. Editor Preferences, Level Editor, Viewports, Measuring Tool Units only changes the number the tool prints (cm, m, inches). Project Settings will not change it.
  3. Quick check with no tool: place a Cube and leave its scale at 1,1,1. That cube is 100 cm on a side, so you can compare by eye. Or open the static mesh and read Bounds. Those numbers are centimeters.

If “views does not working” means the viewport itself is stuck or blank, that is not the measure tool. Window, Load Layout, Default Editor Layout. Then press Esc (you may be piloting a camera) and hold the right mouse button to look, with WASD to move. Orthographic Top/Front/Left are in the same viewport menu as Perspective, top-left of the view.

If the viewport is grey, or the Measure tool is missing from Modeling Mode, say which of those you actually see and someone can narrow it down. The one-line post could be either.

Hi ChenDong, thank you for your input! On the modeling mode drop down palette, I couldn’t find the measure tool, also my view port orthographic 2d, as you mentioned is blank. It was working before, I do not know what was happened. I’m trying read all the documentation pertaining to the problem, but I cannot solve it. Thanks you again.
