I’m assuming this is a bug, but if it isn’t and I am just special, please tell me so. I’ll even accept rudely at this point.
To ensure I wasn’t missing anything, I was following the help file instructions on a separate monitor. I got to the step of Build Control Rig. Save the snapshot, and this error pops:
# Error: ValueError: file P:/Program Files/Autodesk/Maya2014/plug-ins/MayaTools/General/Scripts\ART_skeletonBuilder_UI.py line 7305: No object matches name: SkeletonSettings_Cache
Before installing the files from the main ART thread of fixes, was the same error code, but at line 14587. I don’t think I’ve managed to screw anything up, but I could be wrong.
I am entirely guessing as I know next to nothing of python, but it would appear that it is referencing a non-existent object. I just can’t tell if it’s a bad reference, or I managed to somehow not create some object that it’s looking for.
I am going to try to reproduce this error out, but I want to check out one thing about how you updated the ART tool. Did you make sure to overwrite the userSetup.py file in you Documents/maya/scripts location?
I’m almost positive I did, but now that you’ve asked, I’m sad that I forgot to turn on TeamViewer before I headed out of town for break. If you cannot duplicate the error, I’ll presume that was the problem and verify when I get back.
Hmm. So you are able to use the toolkit fine up until you go to build your Control Rig, correct? So you are able to move the bones setup and paint your skin weights without problem, but when you go to build the control rig you get this error. What is the body setup you are using, is it a default humanoid , are you adding any bones or changing the nature of any bones within the setup (making them jiggly etc.)?
Correct. It is the basic default for a standard humanoid. Come to think of it, I did add one jiggly and one chain for a ponytail just to get a feel for them. When I get out of class tomorrow, will give another go without those and see if it helps.
Brilliance! Apparently, I had set up a few Jiggle Bones and one Chain. As a quick test, started from scratch with the same obj, moved to match mesh, added nothing, success! So either there’s an issue with the number of the alternate bones or the alternate bones themselves, as I did nothing to the original , just added the alternates to it. Is there a hard cap of some kind that I missed somewhere? I counted four jiggles, and one chain of 4 segments in addition to the standard set up . Thanks again!
Given that I was frustrated and in the middle of finals when I originally did the update with those files, just re-downloaded and updated again. Same issue. I presume, that since I am new at rigging in general that I genuinely did something anyone who knows what they’re doing would laugh at as silly, and can no longer remember what it may have been. I still get the same error, but I’m nearly positive that since I can build an unmodified that the issue is mine and not the toolset’s. I consider this answered until and unless I can replicate the error on a new through more experimenting.
Thank you so much for your patience and help, Eric!
I know this is 2 years late, but I just experienced the same problem and found a solution:
Turns out I had an old SkeletonSettings object in my scene from the older version of the ART, or maybe even a corrupted one from a failed save. Who knows? However, after deleting that, and remaking my , the rig creation worked.
I assume that in general the SkeletonSettings is quite important, so I wouldn’t delete it if I was in the middle of making a rig with ART.
To show the SkeletonSettings in your outliner, you have to turn DAG Items off. Go to your outliner, and click Display. The following menu will pop up, and just turn off DAG items.
I am getting this error now as well and have tried the above fixes to no avail? I use a custom character and hit build control rig and get this error. Im using maya student 2015
Are you using the ART V1 from the marketplace or from an old build of the engine? If the marketplace version doesn’t resolve your issues, could you open a new thread since this is such an old one?
