Maya question: Miter?

what its the best way for miter something?

any video? i search for a hour i can’t find any useful and clear info.

i want miter for do frames and other things.

You could create a box which has 1 meter and then you can import it and measure your stuff, because 1uu=1m

miter a corner

i got idea now going to try.

finally after try extrudes, path and other complicate things, was easy… perhaps ins’t the best way but works and its easy, i build a box, rotate 45º, align the piece and the box in the grid changing the pivot in both pieces for align easy , applied a boolean, and i have a nice 45º miter

i hate when i lost hours trying complicated ways without realizing the easy way.

Hi,

Wouldnt it be easier to just move one of the edges inward or outward?
No need for booleans here.

Cheers,
Klaus

was my firsts trys but not work in the pieces i was working, perhaps in others.

There are always multiple ways to go about modeling something like a specific styled edge. I can understand the frustration of spending hours on something only to realize you could have done it so much faster this other way had you only known. This, unfortunately, is one of the side effects of the learning process! While you spent that time doing things in a complicated way you guaranteed you’ll remember this easier way now. Also, I can tell you that in my times doing something the complicated way I’ve learned techniques that have helped me with other projects as well.

I’m honestly not that familiar with Maya and it’s toolset, although I know it may be somewhat comparable to 3Ds . Using a combination of tools like Chamfer, Flow-connect, spline tools and whatever else can get you the shapes you need. It’s much more intensive but you could always just extrude the planes out and place manually. You’ll learn over time the best method for getting particular shapes in a shorter amount of time!

If you have any questions always feel free to ask!

easier way is to do the curve you want, like the first image, then extrude it out and then using the mirror cut tool you can easily do a 90deg corner with no booleans.

Hi,

In this case, I would use a two segment lathe with the contours of the railing/wall.
Another way would be an extrusion along a spline. Basically the same…
Or you use “extrude from hinge”.
Im sure MaYa has these tools as well

Klaus

thanks all responses i going to have that “problem” in the future, i will try this other ways for check was its better for me.

and yes side effect of learning process, i say “lost time” but never its lost time, you learning more things when you have problems than when no.

I made few more test, with bad results.

I try the extrude along EP curve.

the origin its rigth side

i supposed the extrude work with the pivot point follow EP line

hi,

Get the pieze
Rotate 45 grades
Set the camera on isometric and top
Use Cut face tool. ://download.autodesk/global/docs/maya2014/en_us/index.html?url=files/GUID-C8EC81A1-46B2-498C-A759-7DC304D8B687.htm,topicNumber=d30e191089
Extrude.

My apologies for use spanish.

Haz la pieza normal.
Rotala 45 grados.
Pon la camara en isometrica top
Usa cut face tool, esto hace un corte limpio de toda la pieza.
Ahora ya puedes duplicar o extruir.

that its better than my boolean trick. thanks/Graciñas
