Maya model incorrect on import

I am trying to import this model from maya but its shape is completely wrong. I have never experienced this before. It is an nCloth that has the history deleted and the nCloth itself deleted to leave just the mesh as is but is being imported as the original on frame 1. The original has been deleted and the export does not include animation.

What could be causing this?

After banging my head against the wall for the better part of 2 hours, Unreal Engine 4 Developers Community on facebook helped me come to the conclusion that Maya did not want to delete the nCloth data. A quick export import of an OBJ solved the issue.

You can try Ctrl+D in MAYA. This command will create new clean version of your mesh.
