Hello I am using the Maya ART rigging tool with Maya 2014 and am having a problem with skin weights. To make sure I have everything clean and tidy I was going through the sections of the character’s arm and flooding it with black so that no unnecessary areas are influenced by the bones. However what I notice as I flood different parts is that after 2/3 joints all the changes to my previous joints are nullified as new white spots appear near/along the arm at seemingly random locations. Does anyone know why this might be happening? Its completely blocking me from making any progress.
Figured it out. Seems Normalize mode wouldnt let me have a completely black arm for skin weights so I just turned it off and painted with the traditional skin weights tool. Now I can adjust how I like. Not sure what the value of Normalize mode is though…
