F.A.S.T. (First-person action shooter template) is a starter solution for a first-person shooter, based on my 20+ years of experience in game development as an animator, technical animator, and animation programmer. It incorporates all that accumulated experience and avoids common early-stage development mistakes that can lead to serious legacy issues down the line.
At this stage, it's primarily a fully implemented animation system and a set of core mechanics for a single-player first-person shooter.
This asset is primarily intended for game designers — for rapid prototyping, testing new ideas, for those unsure where to start when making a shooter, and for anyone looking to learn the fundamentals of animation-based shooter mechanics.
What you’ll find in this pack:
An animation system with a set of unique first-person weapon animations
A unique ambidextrous system that allows using two one-handed weapons of different types in any valid combination — including knives, pistols, shields, and (in the future) submachine guns and sawn-off shotguns
Core shooter mechanics implemented: locomotion, item pickup, shooting, and reloading
A demo inventory system that allows collecting items and managing weapons in paired and single slots
Demonstration weapon models currently included:
M9 knife
Colt 1911 pistol
Double-barrel shotgun
Pump-action shotgun
AK-74 assault rifle
Riot shield
The weapon set will be expanded over time.
