Max to unreal 5.4 datatsmith direct link

HI, I have used datasmith export in the past, but a recent project required me to use direct link, and all is good, even after a crash, except I lost materials I had applied, in unreal and had to reapply them, I now save current level, and save all, but if another crash happens, i am worried the materials will need to be reapllied,
my question is, and i have searched extensively, what do I doo to now permanantly apply the model to unreal as If i had exported it into unreal, I have an asset folder in my content browser for the model linked from max, do I right click on that folder and save it?
