Here is a basic node setup, but the previewer shows up grey despite it should be showing green. This happens for all my materials. They will show up on the meshes in the viewport but not the previewer in the material editor. Does anyone know how to fix this? I’m using UE 5.1.
Do you have
and
?
Yep, those are my current settings.
Although my memory is vague, I feel this occurred after I did something with Nanite. Could it be related to it?
Hmm, drawing a blank. I haven’t seen a decent solution to this yet…
Yeah, that’s the unfortunate thing. I tried looking it up, there are zero questions or solutions on it.
I did notice it was previewing correctly in UE 5.0.3 when I was creating a material for a game designer.
Thank you for your response though. Hopefully someone out there has an answer.
Hi brownsdragon,
What are your “Material Domain”, “Blend Mode”, “Shading Model” and other settings - I’m not familiar with the configuration you have…
And this is a screenshot showing none of my materials preview the content, but they will show up if applied to a mesh. And if you notice, the MM_Solid one does show, but that one is just a color parameter applied to base color.

Sorry for the multiple replies, this place won’t allow me post multiple images in one post.
It looks like something strange is going on with your material, or your material editor - this is what my material output looks like with the settings you just posted:
Yours seems to also have pins for Normal, Tangent, Refraction, Metallic etc - like there’s some other setting somewhere (that I’ve not been able to find) - it may be a corruption - can you reproduce getting those same pins on your material output when creating a material from scratch?
Edit: Do you have forward shading turned on?
