Material Editor - Channels that should be black and white appearing as black and red?

Howdy all. I’m running 4.25 and am scratching my head as to why individual channels in the material editor appear as red instead of white in the texture preview. What is going on?

It changed in 4.24 apparently, I have no idea why…

I had no idea it changed. This is seriously messing with my understanding of masking and it’s driving me nuts

Yeah, I don’t know if there’s some underlying logic… I mean, if it was red for the red channel etc…
