Master material

Have noticed in more recent versions of UE4 there seems to be a slight oddity in how it interprets a material out of 3d Max.

For example if I create a simple material with a texture in the diffuse slot. Drag and copy that material into another slot. Change the diffuse texture to a new one and rename the material and also give it a different diffuse color.

I would expect these to come in as two independent materials, but once imported one of these materials becomes a master material. It may be useful in many case but not in this instance.

A friend has also noticed this and has a theory that Datasmith doesn’t like copied materials from one 3d Max slot to another.

Anyone else experienced this?

Thanks
