Hello there!
Just want to show a new update on my mars adventure scene…I am currently focussing on getting the terrain right. The area is mariapass. A landmark where Curiosity has been last year. Contains some very interesting geological features. (noticed the slate rocks)
Wow this looks really awesome!!!
but i feel your atmospherics and lighting are a bit off looking at some of the mars rover images it doesn’t look that blurry and the light looks white
It’s blurry, i.e., the image isn’t particularly sharp and doesn’t look like it’s in focus (it’s uncomfortable to look at as a result). It’s probably something to do with your post process (e.g. Depth of Field).
I know you have probally seen this images but note how clear everything is, there are some athmospherics but not as much as you have and also note the light color is almost white… http://mars.nasa.gov/msl/imgs/2015/10/mars-curiosity-rover-gale-crater-beauty-shot-pia19839-full.jpg
its hard to create a mars scene and not have the rusty red be a driving force in the scene…i struggled with that on my own mars scene
Now I see what you mean! yess, I have seen those image tons! I close my eyes and still see these!
The atmosphere has been pushed to have a bit more depth. I tried to give it a bit more dramatic feeling and not really go for the 100% match from the photos from Mars. Btw…that example image has been white balanced by Nasa to show how the landscape would look on earth.
This is an example of a non white balanced picture.
But indeed difficult to stay away from the classic red and still give it that alien, dryness, million old desert landscape feeling.
Where is your version of Mars? Very interesting to see other people working the terrain.
Ahh check! yes, there is DoF included but perhaps the Scene Fringe is also disturbing.
heey there, thnx. It is all landscape. I used a triplanar setup. Actually easy to setup. Then it is all up to texturing to find the right composite. I was focussing on getting a detailed look on shader level. Next step would be to add meshes to add some real chunks of rocks.
thnx, well after all, I think if a real human would walk on Mars, he would be surprised by what the real colors would be. For example…if you take pictures with a different camera each time on the very same scene; I am sure they all look a bit different in colors. Just for fun…if you do a search on ‘real colors mars’ you will see a lot of side by side images, showing the huge different between the ‘real’ colors vs the white balanced ones. It goes one step further…https://cornerofthecabinet.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/pia16800-1920x1200unpronaturewhtbal.jpg
Very cool work! There is a lot of progress in your work. Like it!
