Marketplace Environments - Must Haves

In your opinion what are the current must haves off the environments section?

I want to make two purchases off the marketplace and I would like at least one scifi set.

Im looking at Modular Scifi Hall Ways and Top Down Scifi (which supposedly a lot of the manufactura k4 stuff has issues), possibly ancient environments.

Thoughts?

I would go for Modular Scifi Hall personally … it seems to have more uses and if you had to redo the collisions you should be okay because it is modular and basic shapes.

I bought the Top-Down Dungeon kit and the collisions had issues, so I am weary of any of the other Top-Down kits from that supplier. Ancient Environments also had some collision issues if I remember correctly … but it may have been resolved … not sure.

Yes that was my worry too for those top down sets, especially considering the price point on them.

The modular scifi hallways though definitely look like a good buy!

I was wondering if the top down stuff was any good for FPS. I will have to take a look at what is available again.

The Top Down stuff is not good for FPS at all. To reduce the number of draw calls … a lot of the bottom surfaces of the models are not rendered, this allows you to see through walls and other things like that. The Top Down was specifically designed for a Top Down view or a slightly isometric view but not for FPS.

Well the Top-Down Sci-Fi is working on FPS (that’s the only one I personally tested), can you tell us which one you tried and had issue in first person?
Of course since it’s made for a Top-Down view don’t expect a current gen AAA FPS visual quality.

There is a modular dungeon design on Trello, looks interesting. When it comes out, and if it’s designed well with a good amount of “unique-ability” to create dungeons/caves, it is a definite must have.

edit: tbh, any “modular” design set is a must have imo, with the caveat of the pieces being properly set up (LOD’s, textures, materials, collisions, etc…)

I found the Modular Building Set & Countryside set to be entirely disappointing. However Urban City is extremely useful even if the collision is rather messed up on it.

It was the Top Down Dungeons pack from Manufactura K4.

Thanks, it was on my list, but because of this issue you reported and some collision issues reported somewhere else, I think I’ll skip it.

I reported the collision issues as well. 8-}

It is a good kit for Top Down game play, except for all the work you have to do on the collisions … please don’t get me wrong for that … but it won’t work for a FPS.

Could you elaborate what made you feel the CountrySide set to be disappointing? We would like to improve on the pack and any future products

Also, we are aware of the collision issue in Urban City Pack. An update has been submitted and is pending approval, should be up soon

Hi there ,

I as well would be interested on hearing what was disappointing about the Modular Building Set. As we would like it to be of the highest quality for everyone who purchases the pack. Generally I have received very good feedback towards the pack, so any comments/critiques to improve it even more would be very much appreciated  Thank you

I hear all the top down stuff has collision issues, not something I feel I should have to mess with considering the price point on them.

However, military pack, bunker pack, and cloudy dungeon look very good!

I know the supplier did fix the Top Down Graveyard collisions after it was brought to their attention. We are still waiting for a fix on the Top Down Dungeons … once again that these are designed for Top Down views or Isometric views … not for full FPS or Third Person.

I’m the last person willing to defend him (them?), I hate the way he’s trying to milk the marketplace, but I’ve got to say that Top-Down Sci Fi is pretty good for FPS and the collisions are not messy (I’ve heard the same about Top-Down Interiors from a friend).
Still in the current state you should stay away from Dungeons and Ancient Environment.
I haven’t heard anything about City, Pirates, Military.

Im actually looking for isometric stuff

Dear PolyPixel3D,

As you’re open to feedback :—

  1. Epic should ask content makers to include YouTube clips with all Marketplace content (a fly-though etc), not just 3-5 static images. Not a big ask surely, yes? (Its also common practice on the Unity Asset Store)

  2. Are the summer / fall assets included as complete scenes, as per the photos? (Again, this is the norm when purchasing packs from the Unity Asset Store)

  3. Regarding another 3rd party road pack (GameTextures Roads and Paths). Initially it appeared on the Marketplace as a detailed scene. However, now its just a static series of assets. But it would be invaluable to have demo scenes that can be used with full-access as per the assets. That way everyone has the option to use the supplied scenes during prototyping, but can later go back and customize the scene(s) if the game pans out.

cheers!

Apologies for the late reply here as I’ve been busy of recent.

I had not realized that you had produced both packs as there was a substantial quality difference between the textures in them. I would have liked to have used the foliage from the two packs in the same levels, however I had to discard the Countryside trees as they simply were much lower quality. The Countryside trees often appear as blobs of color with little distinguishing detail until you are much too close. Also when you are directly up next to them it is easy to see cut off-leaves or single leaves floating within the tree.

As I recall, the initial video had displayed interiors. Those interiors were not available in the pack at launch. If I recall reading your topic correctly you sent in an update to Epic which should fix this when it gets updated, but as it stands currently the black voids do not prove to be particularly useful. Moreover it is less of a modular building set and more of a decayed building set. Things like the glass cracks can be fixed, grunge can be toned down without too much difficulty, but things like the overhangs only come in broken so it limits my ability to use it in situations where I wouldn’t want everything to be immediately a disaster area. Also since the architecture is so specific that prevents me from being able to use other assets to portray a pre-damage city area followed by the damaged city area.
