Marketplace audio Structure important?

Hello.
I am working at a huge Retro sound album for 3 months now.
Im looking to produce a big library of great sounding music.

However i find the submission progress a bit weird for music to be.
Im not a Game designer and doesnt use unreal engine, but ive been a music
composer and producer hobbyist for 15 years.

Is the “config” folders etc really important?

I was thinking of just making my own folder structure with categories using WAV or MP3 320kbps files.
so customers can just browse through and pick the sounds they need and import them to their game engine.
just normal music files, not utilized for the unreal engine and no CUE points etc.
Just a regular library of my own work straight out of the Software im producing with.

Going by the submission guidelines - Epic Games Technical Support & Customer Service | Epic Games

Yes it is  I’d stick to submitting as Epic require otherwise you’ll probably be knocked back.

There’s an audio section: Preparing Your Assets: Audio. I’d read through that.

I think the config is important as all items you purchase can open up in the editor in their own right. I find this really useful. I then use the migrate tool to pick and choose what I want.

It’s a pretty decent setup.

I see, so this means i would need to download the Engine then?
I still dont understand whats supposed to be in the config file.
I read through that guideline but it didnt make me much smarter=/

Yes, you to have to use UE4 to create project and later submit it to marketplace. Don’t worry about config folder. It is created on project creation and holds some engine related ini files which is also created automatically. All you have to do is create new project and add audio files to proper folders as shown in guideline. This is as much as I know

So i got the UE installed now and looking through.
I created a project named as the album. I just dont understand how i should add music inside the UE or something.
The guidelines arent well described for someone not actively using this engine.

maybe i overcomplicate it, after making the project, can i just quit UE and just go to the documents folder and manually copy my music over into the “content” folder? or MUST i import the music through UE etc? because if so, then im not sure anymore how to progress from here.

I suggest you to google “UE4 import audio”. There are more answers than you need.
I am not sure about this but you might have to convert your audio file to .wav format, it is used format in documentation. Also it is ok just to drag and drop audio files to content browser as long as it is supported format (I don’t know which formats are supported exactly).
And at least take a look at tutorials about interface of UE4. You’ll love it

hmm okay. So it is actually needed to have the audio go “through” the editor somehow? was just woundering, since its a project file, why would that be so? anyone working on a game wouldnt open a blank project just for audio files? the documentation also said that i had to send a project file too. ofc i just dont understand the editor very well, but i also dont wanna overdo the entire process just for some music.
Just woundering if importing the files and save are good enough, i saw that they wanted me to just zip the content and config folders, i guess importing the music will put them in the content folders automaticly then. and that the config folder is used for, uhm something.

Gotta have to take a look at this today, just worried that i’ll end up doing it wrong:)

Yes it is needed to have everything set up as a project. As Bino mentioned in the answer, we use “migrate”. It is a “process”(just few click clacks) that let us use exact same structure of your project and files to be migrated(or copied you could say) to our own project. So we don’t have to reorganize everything - drag and drop files and stuff… So migrating lets us to copy selected file/folder from one project to another without breaking any dependencies and keeping same structure as original project.
Anyways no need to worry about details. What you have to do is create blank project, import audio files, make sure it works, save it, find it, zip it, submit it(first you’ll have to submit details, video and stuff you are required at submission page), EPIC -hopefully-decides it is good, send the project zip, wait, profit
That is the process for any kind of submission. Don’t worry, it should take less than a week for you to send them project files. After that they’ll email you time of it being published. It might look a little long at first, but actually it’s pretty straightforward and it helps to keep marketplace safe from low quality content. I hope these are not top secret and I’m allowed to write down here x)
I hope your hard work will pay off

Thanks alot. Now im feeling a bit smarter here.
I havent yet had time to test this out after downloaded UE, because im hysterically working on 3 projects aswell with the VGM project.
I just listened through some of the music already at the marketplace and feel quite confident about posting my work.
Its however aimed and special types of games so if it will do well i cant say.

A last question though, as i just was looking through the submission form, there was no where to upload my work or demos etc.
It was just contact information with a “description of the product window”
Should i upload it to a file server and paste a link in description?
Or should i just send a few demo tracks?
I guess they cant tell if my content is worth their marketplace if i cant submit it on the submission form:)

Sorry for late reply. I wasn’t aware of this comment.
I had the same thoughts when I submitted our content(PUPO). When I saw the comments and emails I was really surprised for seeing it get so much interest. So don’t worry about it most likely it will turn out better than you thought. Though that might be because I always keep my expectations very low :stuck_out_tongue:

Probably you already know the answer. Anyways, we uploaded a video of showcasing it to youtube and sent the link. You could upload your musics to youtube and make it unlisted and write down link at submission.
P.S. Make sure NOT! to include you unlisted videos in a playlist. Because it can be seen by anyone who enters you playlists.

Hope this is somehow helpful. To someone. Someday
