Map Transition Animation

Hello everyone,

I am curious about the Map Transition Animation in games such as Guild Wars 2 and Choo Choo Charles. In these games, when players open their map, the camera starts ascending as the map unfolds. I would like to create a similar animation, but I am struggling to understand the mechanics behind it.

My hypothesis is that it might be similar to transitioning from first-person to third-person, but I haven’t been able to grasp how to apply it specifically to the map.

Here are the links to videos showcasing the map animations in both games:

-Guild Wars 2:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3dgBQ4PLQw&t=8s at the start of the video.

-Choo-choo charles:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6vHJr-kf-I&t=94s at 3:05 to 3:15.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or assistance.

You can see, if you slow the videos down, that there are little “jumps” in between. So I’d guess there is a 3D model of a map view and in the middle of the transition it just teleports the camera to be in the same position relative to the “map view” object so it seems like you just zoomed out.

You can see even a little bug in camera movement when he closes the map.
