Hey everybody! I amand I have been making maps for several years starting in counterstrike and other Source games, I recently discovered ARK and instantly put in a couple hundred hours, after learning the map in and out I started getting bored as I knew everything about it so I have decided to try my much at my own map, One that is more island oriented as this would cut people more off from each other compared to a continent either way lets get to the point…
Many of you on this forum already know of my map and my ambitions for it, However it has now reached a scale where it would benefit having another person helping me make this map, UE4 already supports the means for this so I just need a willing person offering to lend me a hand or two. Duties would involve anything technical for the map all the way down to simple landscaping, all depending on what you want to work on. you should be pretty to work on anything as we can work on separate things at the same time. Update 2
I have nearly finished the second island, This contains a cliffside, beach side with an active volcano, and some ancient ruins hidden within the thick forrest

Update 3, completed the majority of the landscape of the third island today even though I have alot left to do on it in terms of playability (rocks, oil pearls, dinos, bushes for berries etc) but I do feel I got most of it done and I learned a ton, mostly that lava rivers are a ***** to get right (understand now why there are no surface lava on the ARK) Also figured out how to use more rocks into my landscape so I will have to go back to the other islands at some point and update the landscape abit.
Gosh tons of work went into making the last island (still 3 to go) and the map now has 4 playable islands with dinos, lakes, bushes and rocks… many many rocks, Also learned how to make waterfalls this update so that’s nice I do feel they need some more work though but we will see how it goes for now, I have also decided to cook my map as is and upload a beta, I have had far too many people asking to play this map and check it out so here goes I guess, I also build a massive Aztec pyramid using the ruins blocks found in the editor, I will have to do some testing to see if that is too much lag or not or if they even show up ingame, I guess we will see, Update 5 should be up tomorow or thursday
I appreciate you sharing your earlier day/night example download on the other thread earlier - was hoping maybe if you had a better recent example describing the ‘headache’ or issues you had to work through that other modders might be running into as they try to implement?
I also noticed the landscape texturing(like grass viewed from a distance) repetition and was trying to use the techniques below to reduce far-distance texture repetition
The examples are from unreal 3, but the diagrams look as if they should work the same with unreal 4 and looking for the same patterns in game ‘islandblendmaterial’ blueprint - I tried the texture rotation technique, but couldn’t get it to work on my initial attempts. I’d be interested if you try these approaches learning to do the same or vice-versa I’m glad to share what I’ve figured out or figuring out to do better.
Also wondering if you started your landscape and materials from scratch or used ‘TheIsland’ level and stripped things out and added your own. My main headache right now in starting a landscape/material from scratch is that I can’t get landscape textures to display properly ingame(lighting issues also) and wondering if I should try stripping stuff out of ‘TheIsland’ if I can’t figure out what the problems are starting from scratch.
Yeah i made the template by exporting the entire “theisland” and to make the lighting work i had to change several things in the level blueprint aswell as recreating the skysphere as for the pattern in the “grass” im not really that worried as there will be real grass covering most of it

This is coming along wonderfully! Keep at it man, it’s looking beautiful
I wish I had the free time to help with this as it looks like a really fun project, but as of right now I’m far too busy with my own projects, and learning Game Design while Developing a game too in my free time >.<
Lookin good man, Im currently using the lighting from the testmap just to have GI and indirect lighting so shadows look nice for a preview. Editor started to stutter every 10 seconds once I made the map close to theisland size.
