*Map has now in the Alienware/Ark modding contest! if you like my work you can vote here:
I believe you need to be registered on alienware arena in order for the vote to count.
Just click the +1 that appears on the thumbnail titled “Roraima.” I’m 5 days behind on voting so I need all the votes I can get in order to get into the judging phase!
This is the map I’ve been working on for the last 1.5 months for the modding contest. Environment is loosely based on Mount Roraima with a more temperate environment.
Mount Roraima is a huge tabletop mountain, or Tapuy, situated in Northern Brazil and includes a unique environment that’s been isolated for millions of years. It served as the inspiration for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Lost World” so is a fitting theme for ARK.
Environmental features of the map itself includes a large Tapuy in the north western quadrant of the map, a large crater that will include a swamp (not yet in the map), extensive cave networks, a unique environment on the top of the Tapuy, temperate forests covering the map with pockets of grassland, and some rare narrative elements scattered around for the player to find.
Resources are of course scattered around the map but tend to be more rich in places you would expect. For example harvestable rocks are most commonly found in ravines and talus slopes. Crystals in caverns. Rare materials are clustered in specific areas that the players must find, which will help increase the value of certain territory that players can control as well as promote players exploring the map for resource deposits.
The map is very work in progress still, and will likely still be so at the deadline of the contest so expect continuing updates until I feel it’s it a good place. I hope to release a test version within the next few weeks (around October 25th) and post contest deadline will publish a seperate map build that will be updated during the contest if needed (since I assume you can’t make updates during the month long judging period.)
Anyway here are some screenshots from in the editor. As I said still very wip and lacking a lot of close up detail. The crater eventually will have a swamp inside it but as is is nothing.
Critique and suggestions welcome.
