Manage animations based on item held

Hi, i’m working on a gun/item system and i want to have a set of animations for every gun.
I made 2 state machines, one for unequipped and the other for a gun and thought “oh yeah i can swap between them” because i’m dumb and don’t even know what state machines are (probably not what i thought since i’m relatively new to unreal engine), but now i realized i can’t switch them and i was wondering what is a way to manage this
