Total noob question. I searched for awhile and just thought I would come out and ask.
I’m not a modder. I’m a software developer.
I came across posts that said “I would drop Modding for Ark if it wasnt for the money.”.
I thought really make money off of mods and there was no Bethesda level of backlash.
I started looking around. I assume what is happening is people are making money from private servers that offer mods only on that server.
If so how is that done? You need to subscribe to the mod through steam, so is there a way to make that mod client portion not work with out the server mod portion? (This might be a well yeah duhh question I just could not find it written out)
Reading around looks like people are ok with this as long as it is their own created mods. I just don’t understand how they can prevent mods from being played on other servers unless there is a way to allow the client side code to only work with closed source server code. Not that the client side code is opensource but compiled code.
