Making hand animations with a VR set?

I wonder if anybody has tried this yet - using VR controllers (e.g. the latest Knuckles with Valve Index) to make FPP animations…?
It could work like a motion capture, but only for hands for FPP games. I’m new to the VR dev, so I’m not sure if something like this (recording VR controller movements and ‘baking’ it into animation keyframes) is possible with any of the current software solutions?
Example use: Simple weapon swing animations for FPP game with different directions, styles, etc… Or different spell casting animations.
