making footsteps with metasound

Hey guys, I want to generate footstep sounds for my FPS character on various surfaces using Metasound, and I’ve noticed Metasound is very flexible. Do you think Metasound is a good idea for this? Generating sounds from scratch directly on Metasound, instead of using them as assets ?

Hey there @besT_Melik! Welcome back to the community! I believe fully procedural footsteps are over kill for most games. Unless it has a mechanical gameplay component attached, I’d usually recommend samples and just randomizing playbacks, varying the pitch, varying the volume, changing samples based on materials, and have them on animation notifies.

I think its a great idea, you can blend a few various step sounds and adjust EQ based on material parameters, vary the attack/sustain/release/gain based on pawn velocity.
