Making an "Idle" Game? Users a.f.k. frequently?

Designing an Idle Game? (i.e. Cookie Clicker and AdVenture Capitali$t!)

Ok, took the game dev plunge a few months back. I already learned python, had some experience with GameMaker, Scratch, Standard C, etc. Just started Unreal Engine, but I’m not sure about its capabilities.
If I am designing a casual game similar to Adventure Capitalist, is Unreal a viable engine? If so, should I start with the Puzzle template, or the blank file? Also, what is the best way to do variable-based storage? (Revenue stats)
