Greetings.
I started recently to play on unreal engine 5. My wish is to be able to create my own characters, world, trees, ect… and not depend on premade art like in the engine’s marketplace. How do I translate this sentence to a professional language? I mean, where should i start? Photoshop? Blender? I probably don’t know the name of what i need to learn, can you point me a direction?
Thank you for reading me
I use Blender for 3d modeling, substance Painter for texturing. I haven’t gotten into animation yet since I program as well and I don’t have the time. You can do textures in blender, as well as animation.
Blender is free and can do everything but it lacks a lot of quality of life features that other programs have, although there is an extensive plugin marketplace that can help fix this, although many plugins are paid.
I’m doing something similar, myself, as a new UE5 user.
It looks like the post above mine mentioned some good software to dig into, blender being a big one for 3d modeling… I’ve also found a software called cascadeur, for animations. It’s not free though.
Thank you, I will dig into that. I am leaving the question open in case someone else wish to share his wisdom too.
Hey @HanukaLight!
If you are just starting out and looking to make you own assets without putting in any financial investment, I definitely agree that Blender is a great place to start. You can also look into other art tools like Krita, Gimp, and Inkscape for textures, sprites, and vector images.
Hope the above helps point you in the right direction!
