I go to the UE page and follow the instructions / links to get started in installing UE for Mac OS - I download the Epic Launcher, as instructed, and then, upon opening the launcher, I see an “Install Engine” button, which, when clicked yields “Engine Versions” and “My Projects” panels, both of which are empty. I go away to get coffee and come back and hear my fan running on high, so I look in the app and notice the Downloads tab on the left. I click that and see that the Epic Launcher is installing Fortnite… Firstly, in what world would this be considered normal, to even easily, let alone automatically, install a 40+GB children’s game on my computer when I’m somebody trying to download a game engine? Secondly, if how about a simpler and cleaner process to begin with?
The second issue, which I see as being generally related, in the theme of general developer incompetence, is that the Unreal Tournament pages seem not to have changed in half a decade, and the “play” sub-page takes you to “How to Play Unreal Tournament” page, which includes a list of YouTube videos, none with any indication of… how… to play Unreal Tournament. Click on the help tab at the right of the UT pages tabs on top, and it’s a 404.
What is going on with this company? Are you guys insolvent or having serious problems keeping even basic things functioning? Should I be concerned about even attempting to use UE?
