Macos won't let me run the Epic Games Launcher because of malware detected?

total newbie here trying to get Unreal Engine installed on a mac m3 Pro (Sequoia 15.2). Following the instructions here. I am able to download the launcher (step 1), but when I get to Step 2, clicking on the app I downloaded in Step 1, i get the following error:

The text reads “‘Epic Games Launcher’ Not Opened. Apple could not verify ‘Epic Games Launcher’ is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy."

I was not able to find any reference to this error elsewhere in the forums. Hoping to get some support here. Thank you!

update: I was able to solve this with this (chatGPT-suggested) CLI command:

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Epic Games Launch.app"

Just a little follow up for anyone else searching for this I was able to get it to work by going into
System Settings…
Privacy and Security
Scroll all the way to the bottom and you’ll see an Epic Games Launcher listing and an option to allow it to open.

Hope this helps
